In this first episode of The Australian Surrogacy Podcast, you’ll hear from me, Sarah Jefford, and about why I decided to make a surrogacy podcast.
I am a surrogate and a surrogacy lawyer living in Melbourne with my family. I’ve been an egg donor, and in 2015 I decided to become a surrogate. In January 2018 I gave birth to a baby girl, Darcey, for her two dads Mike and Nate (episode 2). You can also listen to my partner, Troy, talking about his experience as the partner of a surrogate, and read more about me.
If you are wondering what it’s like 3 years later, you can listen to Episode 99, where I reflect on the surrogacy journey since giving birth.
I have written a book, More Than Just a Baby: A Guide to Surrogacy for Intended Parents and Surrogates, which is the only guide to surrogacy in Australia, and which you can purchase in hard copy or download to your device.
You’ll hear all about my journey to becoming a surrogate, as well as about me as a surrogacy lawyer. I advocate for best practice surrogacy arrangements that promote the best interests of children and support the bodily autonomy of the surrogate. I also support intended parents who are exploring surrogacy options overseas.
