Jessica gave birth as a surrogate for her friend Bec, who suffered with cystic fibrosis, and Bec’s partner Gareth. You might like to listen to Gareth’s episode, which tells the story of how Bec sadly passed away whilst Jess was pregnant with their son, Rixon. For Jess, being pregnant on the other side of the world and grieving the loss of her friend, it was challenging. The remainder of the pregnancy and birth was blanketed in sadness as well as joy. One fear for many surrogates, is the worry that something will happen to their intended parents before they can meet their baby. Whilst this happened to Jessica, ultimately she still thinks surrogacy is amazing and would recommend it for any woman considering doing it.

If you are considering becoming a surrogate, you can contact me (for free!) and we will talk through the legal processes and criteria, because I want you to have the best possibly experience.

Hi! I’m Sarah Jefford (she/her). I’m a surrogacy, fertility and family lawyer. I’m also an IVF Mum, an egg donor and a traditional surrogate, and I delivered a baby for her Dads in 2018.

I advocate for positive, best practice surrogacy arrangements within Australia, and provide support and education to help intended parents make informed decisions when pursuing overseas surrogacy.
